Lower Back Pain Relief Stretches Watching TV
We are all guilty of not doing enough lower back stretches (well, at least most of us don’t stretch enough!). I have found that if I give the patients of my San Diego chiropractic clinic stretches that are easy and convenient that there is a much better chance that they will actually do them. Stretches help us maintain our flexibility but even more importantly they help us avoid injuries. The bottom line is that my patients who stretch on a regular basis are healthier than those who don’t. That being said, here are a few “television stretches” that I like to give to my patients that help them “limber up” while they are watching the tube.
A Migraine Headache can make you miserable! Thankfully, I have only suffered through a handful of these headaches but I have patients in my San Diego Chiropractic clinic that experience them regularly. Although chiropractic treatment helps patients deal with migraine headaches, there are effective home based treatments / strategies for controlling them as well. I have always thought that if you suffer from a chronic condition that you should do your best to find natural solutions that you can implement even if they only serve to make other migraine headache treatments more effective.

Plantar fasciitis (PF) is as difficult to live with as it is to treat. Anyone who has felt the pain of plantar fasciitis knows how debilitating it can be. Effective treatment needs to be done daily – the good news is that most of that treatment can be done at home. In most of the cases of plantar fasciitis that I have seen in my San Diego chiropractic office the pain associated with this condition comes from a number of different areas that include muscles in the calf as well as the plantar fascia itself.

Chiropractic care works for many reasons. At my office in San Diego, California, most of our patients have back pain because of ongoing stress – very few of them have suffered a specific injury. Typical kinds of repetitive stress that our patients experience include; bad lifting habits, sitting for too long without taking breaks, sitting (and standing) with bad posture, not getting enough exercise, etc.
We tend to take our bodies for granted until we are injured. Shoulder injuries can make you change the way you accomplish even the simplest of tasks. Shoulder injuries typically affect our ability to raise our elbow above the height of the shoulder or limit the amount of rotation that our shoulder joint is capable of. The most commonly injured muscles of the shoulder are the four muscles that make up the rotator cuff .

Chronic back pain treatment has both similarities and differences from acute back pain treatment. Chronic, by definition, is a condition that has been symptomatic for a period of time longer than three months. At my chiropractic clinic in San Diego we often see new patients who have been experiencing symptoms for years and have never received any type of structured treatment. In many cases, these patient’s pain began as an acute episode that they either ignored or simply took OTC medications (Aleve, Tylenol, Motrin, etc) which reduce the pain without addressing the actual problem – this is a typical pathway that allows an acute injury to become chronic back pain.

A large percentage of our patients who complain of on-going neck pain have a history of whiplash. Since from a medical standpoint, any pain that lasts longer than 3 months is considered chronic, most of these patients suffer from what can be described as chronic whiplash pain. At my San Diego Chiropractic clinic, chronic whiplash pain is always treated with a combination of in office therapy and at home therapies that you, the patient, completes on their own. Many of the at home therapies that we give to our patients will be used by them on and off for years into the future because chronic pain tends to recur with or without provocation.

As a chiropractor, I have spent alot of time treating tension headaches. People who don’t live in San Diego probably think that we spend our days surfing, sailing and lying on the beach – the truth is that we have just as much stress as people who work and live in less desirable areas. Stress causes tension and tension causes tension headaches, even in San Diego!

Approximately 31 percent of adults suffer with chronic joint pain. Eighteen percent of those people have chronic neck pain. Chiropractors see lots of patients with chronic neck pain because most people with long standing pain don’t want to use medication to control their pain. Since chiropractic care uses a drug free approach to treat chronic pain it does not have the potential side effects that many prescription or over the counter (OTC) pain killers and muscle relaxers are known for.
Impingement syndrome describes a painful condition of the shoulder in which there is an impingement of rotator cuff tendons or bursa in the shoulder. These tendons and or bursa lie between the head of the humorous and the underside of the acromion process – an area that is known as the sub-acromial space. Once the tendons / bursa are impinged upon, they become irritated and inflamed resulting pain and restricted range of motion. Impingement syndrome causes shoulder pain that typically involves a specific painful range of motion, which in many cases, prevents raising the elbow above the level of the shoulder.
