Chiropractic For A Wellness Living

A Wellness Can Be Achieved Through Understanding

Chiropractic For A Wellness LivingA wellness is more than being free from illness, it is a dynamic process of change and growth. Enhancing and maintaining wellness is vital to the successful pursuit of your goals. Wellness is generally used to mean a state beyond the absence of illness but rather aims to optimize well-being.

A wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. Wellness is much more than merely physical health, exercise or nutrition. Social Wellness is the ability to relate to and connect with other people in our world. Environmental Wellness is the ability to recognize our own responsibility for the quality of the air, the water and the land that surrounds us.

How Do You Define Health and Wellness?

My first thoughts always jump to the obvious: working out (mostly at home even though I hate exercising) and clean eating (which for me means a mostly vegetarian / sometimes vegan diet that cuts out most processed food). But total health and wellness includes a lot more than that. The National Wellness Institute promotes the Six Dimensions of Wellness:

I thought that I’d share some thoughts on how I define health and wellness in my life and then expand upon each dimension in greater detail over the next couple of months.

How I’d like to define health and wellness in my life

    1. Occupational

Ensuring that I keep my values and ideals present in my work during all times.

    1. Social

Staying active with organizations that contribute to social betterment. My current favorite is ASPCA. Also, I’d like to consume less (and live a more minimalist life). Check more here.

Intellectual Wellness is the ability to open our minds to new ideas and experiences that can be applied to personal decisions, group interaction and community betterment.

The Relationship between Health and Wellness

What Exactly is Wellness?

Where most people would define wellness as health related, it’s more about the attitude you have towards the way you live. Wellness is actually defined as “a positive approach to living.” In regards to weight loss, it is the mental attitude you take toward your goals when it comes to living a healthier lifestyle.

Since weight loss is such a difficult process, it is important that you take the time to make sure you are mentally capable of handling such drastic changes to your lifestyle. Here are some ways to do just that.

1. Embrace Mental Exercises Too.

Most people don’t consider mental exercises when they are trying to get fit physically, but these types of activities can actually help you achieve your goals more sufficiently. Practicing yoga or some other form of mental/physical activity can actually help promote a better attitude towards weight loss.

What is Health?

Other than wellness, health encompasses a broad spectrum. Here is the definition of health, as defined by the World Health Organization: “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” See more here

Wellness is the dynamic process of becoming aware of, taking responsibility for, and making choices that directly contribute to one’s well being and that of the common good.

Stress that can impact our spinal health and overall well-being can be categorised  into three main areas of stress. Physical, Chemical and Emotional.

  1. Physical Stress : This is the most common form of stress that patients relate to. The physical stress that impacts our bodeis occur throughout our life. From learning how to walk, to sips and falls, and the more serious forms such as  car accidents and sporting injuries.  In todays digital age, sitting is the most common form of physical stress.  Lack of movement to the spine has many health risks, some include tightening of muscles, compressing of joints and in severe cases loss of function of nerves.
  2. Chemical stress: Chemical stress  is so often over looked as a stress that can impact your health. Chemical stress includes  food colouring, preservatives, artificial  sweeteners, alcohol , caffeine, cleaning products, just to mention a few. Other toxins include materials we use and the air we breathe.  A build up of these toxins can impact the way your body heals, decreasing your bodies healing capacity.
  3. Emotional stress: Our bodies filter and process stress on a moment to moment basis. Thoughts and feelings associated with these factors can apply a great deal of stress on the mind and body. These anxieties can cause your body not to function at the optimum level. Emotional stress can cause your muscles to become tighter, joint compression and decreasing movement and flexibility of the spine. Read full article here.
