Dr. Jones wil begin by reviewing your "Confidential Patient Health Information" form. He will then have an in depth discussion of your health complaints which will lead to a physical examination and possibly other diagnostic procedures if necessary.
In addition to the general examination, a careful spinal examination and analysis will be performed to aid in the detection of any spinal subluxations which may be causing your neck pain, back pain, headaches or pinched nerves. Depending on the outcome of the consultation and examination, one or some combination of the following Treatments and/or Therapies may me recommended to treat your condition.
Spinal Adjustments: A "Spinal Adjustment," is the specific manipulation of vertebrae which have abnormal movement patterns or fail to function normally. Generally, an adjustment is a technique used to increase flexibility of the spine, reduce inflammation and relieve the nerve interference that is responsible for the pain or dysfunction.
Physiotherapy: As a part of the doctor’s recommended treatment plan, additional therapies may be used to help speed your recovery. Traumatic injuries and some chronic cases often require this additional treatment.
Physiotherapy can include the application of moist heat packs, ice packs, ultrasound or muscle stimulation. Physiotherapy helps maximize recovery and reduce risk of permanent injury.
Trigger Point Therapy: A technique used to reduce muscle spasms from a build-up of lactic acid. It helps to restore normal ranges of motion and improves strength. Trigger points often contribute subluxations and contribute toward your symptoms. Trigger points may have a referral pattern to other body parts. An example would be pain in the back of the neck may refer pain to the front head or over the eyes, resulting in headaches.
Electric Muscle Stimulation: A safe, small amount of electrical current used for pain control, based by patient’s tolerance level. This reduces inflammation and swelling.
Ultrasound Therapy: A painless, ultra high frequency vibration of sound waves vibrating through muscle tissue for the purpose of breaking down adhesions, (Compensatory Fibrosis). Ultrasound Therapy can also reduce restricted ranges of motion and help to relax surrounding muscle tissue allowing for easier and more effective manipulation of affected vertebrae.
Cryotherapy: The use of ice packs and ice massage applied to reduce swelling, inflammation causing pain and relax muscle spasms. Cold also decreases the activity of cells to reduce swelling and internal bleeding at the site of acute injury, even if it is just a bruise. Cooling the deep tissue also reduces muscle spasm by reducing the muscle's ability to maintain a contraction (contractility).
If you have questions about or think you may benifit from any of the Treatments or Theraputic Services listed, feel free to ask Dr Jones about them. There is no additional charge for some and may be practiced on your own at home, on your own time.
